How much do Dental Veneers cost?

One of the most successful ways of transforming average looking teeth into a glamorous, beautiful smile is with dental veneers. Smile makeovers using porcelain veneers is one of the most requested services at our Penrith dental practice – and so we have compiled a list of answers to the most commonly asked questions about tooth veneers.

What are dental veneers?

There are 2 main types of dental veneers.

Tooth coloured direct bonding “composite” veneers.

This technique uses high strength white filling materials bonded directly to the tooth. Suitable for some situations, they typically wear more than porcelain and have a shorter life expectancy, usually 4 to 7 years, depending upon the bite, oral health measures, home care and wear and tear

Porcelain veneers

Porcelain veneers are thin facades of porcelain constructed in a dental laboratory and then cemented to the teeth as a completed veneer. In our office, we would construct a temporary smile or “trial smile” for you to wear home whilst the veneers are being made. This allows you and the dentist to assess the smile and fully customise any changes desired to the shape, colour, bite etc, before the case is completed. A personalised colour and shape matching consultation is provided with our master ceramicist, at no cost to you, to provide an excellent individualised result.

What veneer system do we use?

We have a number of porcelain veneer systems that we use. SassySmiles is our low cost veneer option, a more affordable, cheaper veneer option than traditional teeth veneers. Not all cases are suitable for this technique. It is suitable when there is minimal tooth preparation required, as with “gappy” smiles.

In addition, we also use a range of boutique and masterpiece porcelain systems. We have access to over 20 types of porcelain systems and will adapt a system to give the desired result and personalise the veneers dependent upon the patients preferences and individual needs of each case.

How much do dental veneers cost?

A range of fee options apply depending upon the individual case needs and difficulty of the case.

  • Typically bonding veneers can range from $500 to $800 per tooth.
  • Porcelain veneers can range from $1200 to $2500 per tooth.

Matching 1 or 2 teeth to the existing teeth is incredibly difficult to do well, and higher quality, more expensive, multi-layered, custom tinted porcelains are necessary and required to create an acceptable colour match. Any dentist can place a veneer on to a tooth, but creating a smile and exceptional colour matching requires an incredibly higher level of skill sets, cosmetic dentistry experience and porcelain systems/laboratory sophistication. Matching just one top tooth with a veneer is possibly the most difficult task a dentist will ever have to do.

How long does it take to apply dental veneers and what is the process?

Usually just a few short visits. Firstly, an initial assessment and consultation, then a model planning and gum health preparation appointment. Finally 2 visits to prepare the teeth, make a “trial smile” and a second veneer fitting/try in appointment.
Occasionally a third fitting appointment is needed for revision of any necessary modifications and colour adjustments. Creating your perfect set of dental veneers is a process, much like having a tailored suit or dress created just for you. A series of adjustments or fittings may be required.

How long do porcelain veneers last?

Direct bonding veneers have a typical lifespan of 4 to 7 years, dependent upon wear/bite etc. They can last longer, but start to lose their lustre and will wear much like a filling will wear, as it is made from the same types of materials.

Porcelain veneers usually last a lot longer and international research shows a typical life span of 10 years or more. The porcelain veneer usually wears very well and won’t stain like composite bonding can. The longevity of porcelain veneers is attributable to 3 main factors:

  1. Experience and skill of the cosmetic dentist.
  2. Quality of the porcelain system used.
  3. The most important factor is home care and regular dental checkups/ maintenance which allows for small issues to be dealt with before the health/longevity of your beautiful new dental veneers are compromised.

With 1 and 2 above, it really is a case of “you get what you pay for”.

Is there a payment plan option?

A range of affordable payment options are available including some payment plan options (terms and conditions apply) . All of these options for treatment, porcelain veneer choices and payment options will be discussed with you in a personalised consultation process.

How do I maintain the veneers?

All fillings (which typically include direct bonding veneers) are warranteed for 2 months.  Porcelain veneers and crowns are warrantied for 5 years. Warrantees are subject to specific terms and conditions, however, the typical requirement is regular dental maintenance and do not cover trauma to teeth or dental neglect.
